Very good onion soup, seasonal melon soup, and escargot, trout encroute was beautiful and outstanding, quail grilled flavor delicious. I would order both again. Classic creme brûlée for dessert. People next to us had a large platter of duck, cabbage - it appeared German style - probably Alsatian as the restaurant - it looked fabulous. Crowd and noise are part of the fun. Service was friendly. (One app forgotten, reminded them and they meanwhile brought the same dish to several around us who arrived later; ours came with dinner.)

This is a quaint restaurant that reminded me of the various cafes found in Paris. With a friendly, cozy and undoubtedly Parisian reputation, Le Bouchon has been serving Chicago residents a taste of Paris since 1993. Le Bouchon, a quintessential French bistro is in the heart of Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood. For our meal, we had four courses. Read on to see what we ordered and what we thought. First Course: Cheese Plate - We couldn't resist the opportunity of some really good French cheeses. Paired with their crusty French bread and accompaniments such as toasted marcona almonds, a nice portion of honeycomb, and slices of a fresh Granny Smith apple, the cheeses worked so nicely with everything. Second Course: Lyonnaise Salade - Oh my. I cannot even express how much I loved this salad. The salad was of lightly dressed bed of spring greens topped with a perfectly poached egg and a healthy smattering of crispy, porky lardons [which are bite sized pieces of think bacon without the smokiness]. Third Course: Steak Frites - If there's any dish my husband enjoys getting at French restaurants, it's Steak Frites. He's very much a meat and potatoes type of guy and this was exactly what he wanted. I had the same and both our steaks were cooked perfectly. Our plates had a mound of pomme frites, or thin and crispy french fries, which could have been a meal in of itself. To put it over the top, each of our steaks had a nice big dollop of a garlic and herb compound butter, which melted right on top of the steak and was great to sop of with french fries. Fourth Course: Chocolate Mousse & Creme Caramel - he had the Chocolate Mousse while i had the Creme Caramel. Both of us enjoyed our desserts immensely. The chocolate mousse was light, airy and had a rich chocolate flavor. My creme caramel was perfectly done. Smooth, creamy and with some perfect caramel notes, it certainly completed my meal and experience at Le Bouchon.

Chicago's Classic French Bistro I have been eating at Le Bouchon for 25 years (on average 15+ times a year) and I've never had a bad meal. Is it the fanciest French restaurant in town? No, that would probably be Obelix downtown. But that's not what it's supposed to be; it's a cozy, authentic, neighborhood bistro. The staff are delightful, most have been working here for many, many years and the surroundings are comfy and old school. Other than the English being spoken a visit to Le Bouchon really does transport you to France. My wife swears that the mussels are the best she's ever had, I like pretty much everything on the menu but if the rabbit pie is on, I order it. Great wine selection and on Mondays all wines are half priced. The owners Oliver and Nicholas went from carrying on their fathers legacy to, dare I say it, improving upon it. Jean-Claude would no doubt be proud of how Le Bouchon has thrived under their ownership. Make reservations in advance, Le Bouchon is busy at lunch and dinner everyday. Highly Recommended.

The complimentary bread was ABSOLUTELY DIVINE. I LOVE bread and it was some of the best complimentary bread I've ever consumed (dare I say the best thing there!!) Out of everything we ordered, I would probably get the escargo and the octopus again. They were super yummy and really enjoyed the flavor. Service could be a bit better IMO. I feel like the speed of food coming out is a bit slow & the pacing was a bit off as well. Took a bit to get the server's attention for the check & bread refills. TLDR// chairs are uncomfy & pacing issue with food coming out. get the escargo and octopus

Lovely little french place with fantastic food! I've been a few times and everything I've eaten is delicious, including the desserts. The french onion soup, chicken, trout, creme brulee, escargots, and foie gras are all some of my favorites. The duck for two is also fantastic if you're hungry and have enough people...it could probably serve up to 3 people as well. The interior space is very comforting and packed like a classic french restaurant too! The cocktails and wine are all pretty solid. In all, it's a lovely spot I would highly recommend if you're looking for some good french cuisine and/or for a special occassion.

$28 for Foie Gras Torchon. $28 for FOIE GRAS TORCHON. The math doesn't math. How on earth can you get Foie Gras ANYWHERE for this price and this ridiculously delicious? Le Bouchon pulls this off. I came in on a rainy Tuesday about an hour before the kitchen closed but was promptly seated. My server was quick to suggest a lovely elderflower sparkling water as my beverage. This was the lunch menu and all I wanted was to try their, yep you guessed it, Foie Gras Torchon. The brioche was toasted and thick sliced. The foie gras was accompanied by pistachios, hazelnuts and freeze-dried strawberry slices on one side and rhubarb slices on the other. I was so full off of this and maybe the toasty baguette I was served upon entering, I couldn't even entertain the idea of dessert. Next time. Very well done fine French cuisine.

Came on a Monday night for a special birthday dinner! (They have 1/2 off bottles of wine on Mondays): Seared Foie Gras: 9/10; seared duck liver, panisse (chickpea fries), maple agrodolce, macerated blueberries, brown butter hazelnuts. Buttery and tangy with some crunchy bits. Truite Des Fjords en Croute: 9.5/10; Ocean trout wrapped in puff pastry, english pea mousse, sauce sorrel, smoked trout roe. INSANE. Crispy on the outside with a gooey center (almost like lox) Bone Marrow: 8.5/10; Roasted bone marrow with soppressata jam, parsley salad and brioche. Escargots a la Bourguignonne: 8/10; Snails, garlic and Parsley butter. Tarte Aux Pommes: 8/10; warm apple tart with caramel sauce. Wish it was a bit more tart (pun intended)

Came 10 mins before they opened on Saturday and got seated at the bar! I don't think they have tables saved for open seating so definitely make a reservation if you don't want a long wait or if you don't mind sitting at the bar. This is styled just like a Parisian bistro! And has a menu that is reflective of that. The bread & butter to start was delicious! And the French onion soup was to die for! But the Manion style was a bit too much for me. I'll definitely be ordering the Steak Frites with the sauce on just the steak next time! The flavors were amazing though!

Came here because the French onion soup had so much hype and left here feeling like they over delivered on the hype! This might be top 5 meals since Moving to Chicago. The French onion soup. Don't even think about it. Just get this. Even if you're just going to share it. The broth is the most flavorful and delicious broth I've ever had. It has a ton of cheese. And it's just perfect Casoulette - this bean dish is another home run. With a duck thigh and ripped rabbit, the flavors in this are excellent and it's a hearty dish. Apple tart - get this for dessert! Wowza. I have no idea how they do it but it's amazing. They also had a prickly pear and hibiscus sorbet. So glad we got it even though we could barely breathe. It's refreshing, light and perfect and to the meal. Although I save a bite of the tart as my last bite since that was my fav haha Service was impeccable. How do you hire so many nice people? Water was always refilled, they swapped out plates and napkins, super attentive. The place is small so make a reservation. It's cozy and great for an intimate date or could just as well serve as a casual lunch.
